Poll: Public Overwhelmingly Supports Donald Trump’s Border Wall

Breitbart

Published

on

The panel of 1,778 adults was asked: “Do you think that any holes in the border wall with Mexico should be patched or should be left open?”

Seventy-three percent of the respondents wanted the government to patch gaps in the wall, while 27 percent opposed such action.

Retaining the existing wall received 79 percent support when respondents were asked: “Should the hundreds of miles of the border wall that have been constructed over the last few years be left in place or dismantled?”

Only 21 percent — or one in five — said the government should come down.

The border wall is a barrier to illegal migration and to the transport of drugs into Americans’ communities.

The survey was conducted February 23 to 25, as border-agency officials struggled to minimize media coverage of the growing number of economic migrants they have invited to the U.S. border.

President Joe Biden stopped the additional construction of the border wall as soon as he got into office. However, a lawsuit may force Biden to restart construction because his agencies have not completed work that Congress directed and funded in 2019 and 2020.

The Harvard-Harris poll also showed the public ambivalence toward the wall. For example, 53 percent of respondents in the poll said they supported Biden’s decision to halt the construction.

Forty-seven percent of the public disagreed with Biden’s decision. The detail of the poll showed 33 percent strongly approved of Biden’s decision, while 32 percent strongly disapproved.

For years, a wide variety of pollsters have shown deep and broad opposition to labor migration and the inflow of temporary contract workers into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.

The multiracial, cross-sex, non-racist, class-based, intra-Democratic, and solidarity-themed opposition to labor migration coexists with generally favorable personal feelings toward legal immigrants and toward immigration in theory — despite the media magnification of many skewed polls and articles that still push the 1950’s corporate “Nation of Immigrants” claim.

The deep public opposition is built on the widespread recognition that migration moves money from employees to employers, from families to investors, from young to old, from children to their parents, from homebuyers to real estate investors, and from the central states to the coastal states.

Study: Biden Tax Hikes Will Cost 1 Million Jobs in First Two Years

Breitbart

Published

on

The study, released Thursday, details the long and short-term damage to the economy inflicted by Biden’s tax hikes and repeals of Trump’s pro-manufacturing policies.

NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons summarized the studies findings:

“After decades of advocating for a tax system that provided competitive rates and modern international tax provisions, manufacturers in America kept our promises following the enactment of the 2017 tax reforms: we raised wages and benefits, we hired more American workers, and we invested in our communities. If we undo those reforms, all of that will be put at significant risk. Manufacturing workers will lose out on jobs, growth and raises. We should be building on that progress, not rolling it back. But the conclusion of this study is inescapable–follow through with tax hikes that give other countries a clear advantage and we’ll see far fewer jobs created in America.”

The study, authored by Rice University economists John W. Diamond and George R. Zodrow, calculated the effects of increasing the corporate tax rate to 28%, increasing the top marginal tax rate, repealing the 20% pass-through deduction, eliminating certain expensing provisions, and taxing capital gains as ordinary income for individuals earning $1 million or more.

They found that the U.S. would lose one million jobs in the first two years, GDP would be $117 billion lower by 2023, and ordinary capital, or investments in equipment and structures, would be $80 billion less in 2023.

“There are some who are well-meaning and have suggested that the U.S. corporate tax rate should increase, but not by as much as the 28% proposed. Unfortunately, what that means is that America will still lose jobs and investment, just not quite as much. America just can’t afford that, especially now,” Timmons said.

Fact Check: Major League Baseball Moves All-Star Game over Law that Expands Some Voting

Breitbart

Published

on

VERDICT: FALSE. The new Georgia law actually expands some voting, contrary to claims by Democrats and the media.

MLB became the latest victim of a hoax about Georgia’s voting law when it announced Friday that it would move the 2021 All-Star Game out of the state. In a statement, MLB said it supports voting rights and “opposes restrictions to the ballot box.”

Major corporations based in Atlanta, such as Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines, have also criticized the new law harshly. But as the Wall Street Journal noted in an editorial Thursday, “They’re denouncing Georgia’s election law, but have they read it?”

Fact-checkers have already taken President Joe Biden to task for false statements about the law, as Breitbart News noted:

“What I’m worried about is how un-American this whole initiative is. It’s sick. It’s sick … deciding that you’re going to end voting at five o’clock when working people are just getting off work,” [Biden] said during last week’s news conference. The following day, Biden claimed the law ended voting hours early “so working people can’t cast their vote after their shift is over.”

However, Biden’s assertions are not accurate. Election Day hours in Georgia, which are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., have not changed. Those in line by 7 p.m. are permitted to cast their vote.

“Nothing in the new law changes those rules,” the Washington Post reported.

Georgia’s law did, however, make changes to early voting, but the Post explained that experts said the “net effect was to expand the opportunities to vote for most Georgians, not limit them.”

Critics have also claimed that the law prohibits people from drinking water while waiting in line to vote. In fact, voters are permitted to drink “self-service water from an unattended receptacle.” The law bans a practice called “line warming,” in which party operatives hand out water or other goods to people outside polling places, using the opportunity to campaign.

The local Atlanta Journal-Constitution issued a correction after claiming the law limited voting hours: “A previous version of this story said the new law would limit voting hours. On Election Day in Georgia, polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and if you are in line by 7 p.m., you are allowed to cast your ballot. Nothing in the new law changes those rules.”

The law limits the early voting period before runoff elections, but Georgia’ early voting period is still more generous than that of some other states, including Biden’s home state of Delaware. Georgia allows no-excuse absentee voting, unlike other states — including Delaware and the state of New York, where baseball’s Hall of Fame is located.

Many other provisions of the Georgia law make voting more accessible, not less. For example, it formally allows drop boxes, which were just a temporary measure in the 2020 election.

By MLB’s own logic, therefore, it is supporting “restrictions to the ballot box” by pulling the All-Star Game out of Atlanta.

And since Democrats consider all “restrictions” to voting to be “voter suppression” motivated by racial animus, MLB’s move could be construed as racist. That is especially so given that the brunt of its decision will be felt by Atlanta’s predominantly African American community, including local business owners.
